Guide Review - Nokia 8801 Review
I had big hopes for the Nokia 8801 but, I was in for chunks of disappointment. Many things were below normal expectations for a "luxury" phone. First, the speakerphone's volume is too low, thus almost unusable. Now the keypad: Keys are small, bubble-shaped and slipery thus not comfortable at all. The "0" is particularly tough to get to for big finger-equipped guys and girls with long nails. There was also a problem with the numbered menus. For ages, Nokia phones have had numbered menu items so that you don't have to scroll down to an item then select it. For some reason, the numbered menus on the 8801 are buggy. Pressing a number doesn't always return the right combination. All Nokia could suggest to solve the problem was to... scroll down to items and select them. How about a software update for a phone that's supposed to be the new luxury star?
All of this is sad since the 8801 is, on the other hand, a beautiful sturdy stainless steel phone with a lovely pop-top design and tempered glass display, but do you want to pay the luxury price for that many curlpits? Strangely enough, I think the lower level Nokia 6101 is... a better choice!
