Jerry Welbach (Brad Pitt) reluctantly works for the mob and with his girlfriend (Julie Roberts) pressuring him to give up his criminal ways, life is tough. He would happily give up his criminal activities except for the fact that his life is on the line if doesn't complete one last job. He must travel to Mexico and retrieve an antique pistol (The Mexican) that is said to be cursed. In the meantime his girlfriend is taken hostage by the man who wants the pistol, just to make sure that Jerry comes back.
